Al-Sadr Calls for Million-Man March to Protest U.S. Occupation

Some Stuff that is going on in Iraq

I never knew anything aout Al-Sadr.

Around this time 6 years ago was te fall of Baghdad and Sadum Hussian Regium. So, this guy al-Sadr had a marc to protest againist Colation Frces the other day, in Sadr City about 20,000 people showed up.

The Article is from Fox News.

NAJAF, Iraq — Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr has hinted at retaliation if Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government does not immediately stop arresting his followers.

The anti-American cleric says in a statement issued Thursday in Najaf that the government has placed his movement in an impossible situation by demanding that followers stop military and political opposition and ignore the arrests and killings of supporters.

He says he is keen to prevent bloodshed but pointedly offers a reminder that his followers rose in the past against the "oppressors," referring to U.S. forces and last week's clashes against government forces in Basra.

Al-Sadr also called Thursday for a "million-strong" turnout for an anti-American demonstration April 9 to mark five years since the U.S.-led occupation in Iraq began.

The statement said protesters should head to the Shiite holy city of Najaf south of Baghdad waving Iraqi flags "to cement the unity of Iraq and demand its independence." It called on demonstrators to "raise your voices high in the skies of Iraq against the oppressing occupier," a term the Sadrists use to describe U.S.-led forces.

Al-Sadr also offered to help the government rid the army and police of what he says are terrorists and rival militiamen.

Al-Sadr complained in the statement that although he had called on his militia to stop fighting, the army and police were continuing illegal arrests and attacks against his followers.

Al-Sadr blamed the attacks on "corrupt elements" and said if the government could not remove them, "we are ready to cooperate...to purge our army and police of such elements."

Although major fighting in the south eased last weekend, military operations are continuing in the Basra area.

U.S. and Iraqi officials have maintained that the crackdown was directed at criminals and renegade militiamen but not al-Sadr's political movement, which holds 30 of the 275 seats in the national parliament and is a major political force.

But the Sadrists believed the operation was aimed at weakening their movement before provincial elections this fall. Resistance was so fierce that the Iraqis had to call in U.S. jets and British tanks and artillery to help in the battle.

On Thursday, the U.S. military said an American F/A-18 fighter jet fired a missile at a house in Basra the night before after Iraqi soldiers came under small-arms fire. Two militants were killed in the airstrike, the U.S. said.

"Coalition forces are unaware of any civilians killed in the strike but are currently looking into the matter," the military said. Iraqi witnesses and officials said at least three civilians were among the dead.

"While we were preparing for evening prayer, U.S. aircraft bombed this house, we rushed to save survivors but in vain," a neighbor identified only as Haj Juwad told AP Television News. "The father, mother and a young boy were killed and three others were buried under rubble. We evacuated two people and one is still under the rubble."

Hospital officials, who have strong ties to the Sadrists, said three bodies had been received, including two men and an elderly woman, and two women were wounded in the strike. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to release the information.

In northern Iraq, officials said a suicide car bomber attacked an Iraqi checkpoint west of the city late Wednesday, killing seven people, including a woman and a 5-year-old child, and wounding 12, according to the Iraqi army.

The U.S. military confirmed the Mosul attack but put the casualty toll at five dead and 19 wounded.

In Baghdad, one civilian was killed and 10 were wounded in a parked car bombing, while an Iraqi soldier was killed and three were wounded when a roadside bomb struck their patrol.

Three Iraqi civilians also were wounded in a U.S. airstrike targeting militants engaged in a gunbattle with U.S. ground forces near the southern Shiite city of Hillah, according to a military statement.

DUDE "FIST BUMB AROUND THE WORLD"

Hey did you ever where the high five orginated from? I did today because I have been so damn busy, while researching the matter I came accross this article published by time magizine which I found ridiculious and hilerious.

A Brief History of the Fist Bump

Facebook Yahoo! BuzzTwitter Linkedin Permalink Reprints Related It's a hand gesture normally associated with sporting events and Bud Lite commercials. But on Tuesday night, millions of people witnessed Michelle Obama daintily knocking knuckles with her husband as the Illinois Senator took the stage to claim the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. The Washington Post called it "the fist bump heard 'round the world."

The origins of the bump are murky, though most communication experts agree on a basic — if fuzzy — evolutionary timeline: the handshake (which itself dates back to ancient times) begat the "gimme-five" palm slap that later evolved into the now universal "high-five" and, finally, the fist bump.

Some claim the act of knuckle-bumping began in the 1970s with NBA players like Baltimore Bullets guard Fred Carter. Others claim the fist bump's national debut occurred off the court, citing the Wonder Twins, minor characters in the 1970s Hanna-Barbera superhero cartoon The Superfriends, who famously touched knuckles and cried "Wonder Twin powers, activate!' before morphing into animals or ice sculptures. One might also credit germaphobics for the fist bump's popularity. Deal or No Deal host Howie Mandel reportedly adopted the gesture as a friendly way to avoid his contestants' germs.

Even the terminology used to describe the manual move is under dispute. On reporting Obama's speech, The New York Times described it stuffily as a "closed-fisted high-five" while Human Events reader racily suggested it was closer to "Hezbollah-style fist-jabbing," (the comment was later removed from the article). One Internet poster even referred to it as "the fist bump of hope." Other terms for the move include "power five," "fist pound," "knuckle bump," "Quarter Pounder" and "dap."

The fist bump's precursor, the low- and high-fives, originated in the 1950s, again mostly among athletes, who deemed handshakes too muted and formal for celebrating teamwork and triumph. The 1980s are generally regarded as the heyday of the high-five, though the gesture has enjoyed a revival of sorts in recent years — especially among Gen-X parents and their offspring. Modern-day high-five enthusiasts have even created a cellphone version: Callers high-five their phones (slap the speakers) or simultaneously type "5."

The problem with the high-five is that it can occasionally be hard to pull off. Just ask Tiger Woods and his caddie, who botched a high-five on national TV during the 2005 U.S. Masters Golf Tournament. Perhaps this is what makes the fist bump so unique. Though simple in motion, its meaning is far more complicated. In any other context, a clenched fist would be perceived as hostile.

Ambiguities aside, most pundits and observers alike had complimentary words for the Obama family's fist bump, seeing it as a rare moment of spontaneity and playfulness that a race already in its 17th month sorely needed.

"Gestures, particularly ones that are recent, haven't been studied that much," says David Givens, director of the Center for Nonverbal Studies in Spokane, Wash. "For me, it's ironic because we all noticed that fist bump. I thought it was very touching. It was an elegant little non-verbal moment and it gave us a view into their relationship."

For his part, Obama, who once likened himself to NBA star LeBron James, said the fist bump reflects a marriage that keeps him grounded. "It captures what I love about my wife," he later explained to NBC's Brian Williams. "That for all the hoopla I'm her husband and sometimes we'll do silly things."

Though National High-Five Day already exists — the third Thursday in April every year — the fist bump has yet to claim its own day on the calendar. June 3rd might be a good candidate.
well i ran 4.3 miles last night, and it really killed me, I need to do more road and treadmill training to get stronger. Thank goodness I went with Brian and he of course didn't let me stop. My foot kept up for the most part.

We have sort of adopted a baby and mommie kittie. The mommie has been gone the last two days. However last night they were feed a cheese burger, and mommie had come back, which is good. however mommie had two babies, and the yellow one is gone. I wish i could pick them up and just love them, however they probably have so many diseases I will save all the love for Bane, Isaac, and Milton.

The kitchen is going to start happening justin is saying, he better fucking post pictures as he goes start to finish, since I can't be there to hassle him about the hole thing.

Tonight I will work my abs, legs, arms and shoulders, and maybe run on the treadmill. Tonight is a full workout, I really can't believe that it is thursday already, oh yeah.

I got pictures of Lil David and Maria, they have been added to my wall in my office, I can't wait to follow the little guys around to take oddles of pictures. Maria is so beautiful and spunky, and david is just becoming so cute and gentle.

There will be lots of picture to make up for the year i didn't get to take a lot.

It is raining here today, so on the way to work I was drenched, i did wear my offical army rain coat.

I know own an ITOUCH, the thing is just so damn fun. It has built in speakers and they are pretty loud, I will use the shit out if it.

Oh yes the hate stickers are in, and they are a hit. "excuse me-would you like some hate added to your life today?" and you give them a sticker, that is fucking right.

last night was a hard night at the gym, the gym kicked my rear end, to complete fatigue.

I did a lo of tricept work and a few bicep exercises which i would like to get on the ball and maybe before bed head over and do a fast shoulder and bicep work out.

It is just going to take a couple of weeks to be able to do all the exercises on my list to work all the muscles and different areas in my arms.

I got on the elptical and did 35 minutes, man it sucks-i was a sweaty gross person that couldn't walk very well after I got off, but today I feel fine and my foot isn't to bad.

tonight brian and i are going to tackle a 4 mile run, in preperation for the long run of 5 miles this weekend. GOOD SHIT.

I also do not have to go out in the shit for a long time now, WOOT!

well on sunday I did an ab workout, and even now sitting up is akward FEEL THE PAIN.

I did 3 sets of 25 incline sit ups, 3 sets of 10 knee/hip raises, 3 sets of 30 crunches with 20 flutter kicks inbetween each set, then 3 sets of 20 four count suprine bicycles. THen I ran for 20 minutes on the treadmill.

On monday I went out in the shit, and my foot was hurting really bad. I was also exhuasted so I decided to use monday as a rest day.

Today I went to physical therapy, and did my own exercises, and my foot is still somewhat sore. I am going to go to the gym and lift tonight, and run on the treadmill, my foot seems to hurt less when I am running on the treadmill. I plan on spending an extra half hour at the gym tonight to get in a better and more in depth arm work out.

Tomorrow is going to be a road run. Friday I am adding a mile on-for five miles.

I am also making play lists to workout to. Fun stuff.

That is all for now.
